it's become a trend. karlach sitting on something that is a little too small for her large build. it's not comfortable , if you were to ask. she is just genuinely not paying attention to much of anything , let alone the way her ass is cramping. today it's a stool that someone like arabella could fit on perfectly. not somebody like karlach. honestly , all of this is an accomplishment because it's hard to completely dissociate in the middle of a barn with a couple horses that smell like manure , a single troublemaker goat , and a cow that has been extremely talkative -- even when karlach can't understand her.

and she should probably admit she's barely heard a word of anything , including what her wife has been saying. she has simply been going through the motions of nodding along.

it is not until meanie comes absolutely out of nowhere to run with purpose straight into dronia's leg. a full headbutt. it's almost instant after that the way karlach's head turns to try and hide the smile , but the smile is there because dronia didn't do a single thing. maybe that's the problem. no snacks?

i have this big headcanon in my head about good vs. evil and karlach will just never be an evil character, but -- that doesn't mean she hasn't done awful things. or that she can't be brutal or even vicious. her softness truly does come from a place of violence ... and her past is laced in blood, gore, and what it takes to truly survive. half the things we hear about her are placed down as gently and maybe there's a reason for that. shadowheart's the only one that gets an actual flashback, but i feel it's important to understand some things for her characterization, especially about her horrendously violent past.

i. her heart was ripped from her chest and i can assure you that it wasn't done carefully or kindly in any capacity. she probably endured a ton load of pain in order for that infernal to be set there and to be working. the scars all over her chest and arms are probably from the initial entry and it being too hot that it burned her from the inside out until it truly became a part of her and she learned to live with it like it is her heart. furthermore, it will continue to hurt and haunt her mentally because it's a connection to her mother. it was her heart.

ii. there's probably moments of respite in avernus, but overall never forget she was the frontlines of a consistent war. she probably had to eat whatever disgusting animals and WHATEVER was in avernus at times. she does actually make a comment at one point in moonrise towers if you spray her with the gore from the mindflayer colony where she comments on it tasting like ... dwarves. it's probably more than likely a joke, but there's a deeper implication to it that also revolves around the fact she may have been addicted to soul coins in avernus and by tav and friends simply not supplying her any, she's getting herself off of them. furthermore, those are souls. she just literally eat souls as a form of energy drink ... because that's what it took in avernus if she wanted to keep fighting.

iii. she was so wildly dehumanized in avernus because she was just zariel's pet. this one is more of an obvious one. she was not a person to zariel but just a weapon.

&, despite all this, because all this, her affinity for love and kindness is probably something she really, really had to fight to keep at times in avernus. yet, she did, and she keeps fighting for love and kindness and this makes her a wildly GOOD character despite some horrendous deeds in the past.

karlach will always miss dronia like a flower misses the sun on a shady day or the rain on a dry day. if her life had been given meaning , it was mostly because of dronia. there are other friends and events that are due some credit as well , but everyone should know at this point that karlach would have ended her own life before going back to avernus ... if it wasn't for the sole fact that DRONIA HAD BECOME HER LIFE.

& , maybe that's some dangerous hopeless romantic thoughts where this could only cause her pain. but dronia is the opposite spectrum of a monster like gortash. she has every reason to believe dronia would never betray her and she has every reason to believe that THEY BELONG TOGETHER .

" well , i suppose , if for nothing else we can go on a nice walk for a little bit. not too long , but i think a walk could help you. stretch things out , something like that. lucky for you , you are my love and i am back to call you that as frequently as possible without it being fuckin' weird. " the light humor in karlach's voice -- it's hard to see her as anything but happy. avernus was only a couple of weeks ago , now it felt like a lifetime ago already. THANKS TO DRONIA. always.

the tiefling slowly removes herself from dronia's cozy body , hands unraveling from soft hair and body pulling away from much softer skin. karlach stands , holding her hand out.

She missed her warmth, the way they cuddled up against each other at night, the heat from Karlach's engine tickling at her back with such a comforting sensation. It was everything she needed and more. And now she can't wait until she can go back to sleep and drift off in her arms once more. It's all she desires right now. Such a simple need but one she's been deprived of for months.

With Karlach by her side once again, she feels whole again. Imagine how whole she'll feel once all this is over. When they can wed and really live their lives.

"There is, if I recall correctly. I... don't know if we're still camped in the same location we were before I was injured. But if we are, there should be one about half a mile down the beaten path." She sighs, "I've missed hearing you call me love. I would want nothing more than to get this dried blood off my back. And for you to help me." Oh, she just wants to spend every waking minute with her. She has months of lost time to make up for. And she'd get up right now if it weren't for those fingers in her hair.

the tiefling is like a fucking ... she doesn't even quite know what her thought process was. it felt negative. what she is, without the negativity, is a person who misses her partner whenever dronia isn't at least one room over. there's a gifted cigar between her clawed fingers. she's sitting just on the bench outside their room. the new one with a little balcony overlooking the lake. the last light they fixed up. she isn't wearing a shirt. the weather has a crisp feeling to it and she's just enjoying it. since the months the curse has been lifted, this land has been rebuilding itself quickly. taking everything back. she now sees what everybody was devastated about.

with the cigar dangling between her legs, her free hand traces the little metal bar that held the infernal engine in place. a frown. there's an identical one on her back. she doesn't even quite remember if the tattoos surrounding the machinery came first or the machinery came first. most of avernus, the first time, was a real blur. she has flashes of hacking apart imps and moments of trying to be herself. otherwise, for the most part, she couldn't be herself. she had to be zariel's.

karlach flinches, head turning quickly, the hand with the cigar raising. as if she was absolutely ready to fling that at someone as a weapon. it's the way she instantly smiles, this small flicker to her lips, body relaxing again, returning to it's hunched forward position overlooking the lake. all when she realizes who it was. it's hard to believe that a few seconds she was so eerily unsatisfied with herself. now she isn't quite as much.

one of the headcanons about karlach i like the most and that larian actually puts in their little animated shorts too is that while she does usually melt at her s/o's physical contact, i also love that literally anyone else can also cuddle with her but this time she is SO casual about it, literal teddy bear vibes. you just want someone to hug? karlach has you. need someone to just curl into? definitely pick karlach. she'll just be chilling.

fortunately for karlach , one of the good things about the replacement of her whole goddamn heart with an engine is that she can make puns ( not that she's lessening this makes her stronger -- those are good attributes she tries to cling to ) . sometimes it just can be rather hot around karlach.

" i am all in , love. " the confidence in which karlach said that was mostly directed at her hand , but it's possible the double entendre won't go unnoticed. she does like shadowheart.

" ... and now it's your turn. how about those mosquitos? " those words are followed up with a chuckle , something hearty and filled with pure amusement. it was such a carefree , little laugh. the energy here is that karlach is having fun. the outermost and obvious game they're playing is poker , but there's that delectable secondary game of getting shadowheart to fold. that's another pun , by the way.

It feels like the flash of a shooting star. Fleeting, miraculous, and hopeful. The sort of phenomenon you see once in life, and she just barely stops herself from making a wish.

Shadowheart really thought herself strong enough to deflect the wiles of a winking tiefling, but apparently not. All at once, a blazing heat rolls itself through her veins, and she suddenly feels too hot. Too smothered by such meager bits of clothing. Oh, she’d love to rip herself nude and bare all she is to Karlach’s calloused hands. But fantasies so burdensome are best kept to restless dreams. Stoicism holds firm for a moment, and she doesn’t budge yet.

“I’m a fantastic liar. Don’t overestimate your judgment.” It’s her best attempt at saving face. Sometime later, days or months or years from now, she’ll blame her shaking voice on the cold evening breeze, if they’re lucky enough to have a future. If they’re lucky enough to look back on tonight with happy faces. Shadowheart's eyes flit down, scanning her hand, then jump back up.

No, no, no. Don't look at her like that.

She ducks her face behind fanned out cards, concealing color, masking panic, burrowing her head in the sand as if that beguiling woman across from her might vanish if she hides long enough.

“Are you in or out, Karlach?” Such a stubborn heart she has. One day it’ll punish her. Actually, tonight it might punish her. “We have time, but not that much time. Make a decision before the mosquitos bleed me dry.”

A LINKED VIDEO OF KARLACH GETTING ANGRY, and this is after you break up with her. i'm actually 100% for Karlach setting boundaries and not being a pushover. Like, out of every single time she's gotten angry, it was usually for a big moral obligation -- gortash, the dark urge choosing to become spawn, etc. This time it's just because you broke her heart and she was ready to ... break some bones. It's just always the reminder that she is literally Zariel's Champion and can be incredibly powerful.

Don't make her remind you when she's angry.

a tiefling headbutt with all horn really has to do a number though. i'm like so sure that if someone disarms karlach, she just lets out a battle cry and charges at them like an actual ram. nobody even really sees it coming.

i like the very real picture knowledge i just acquired of karlach's size difference with most characters -- and while i don't think she's 7 foot, she's still 6 foot and extremely Big.

anytime i'm subjected to a video of karlach talking about exactly what happened - ie gortrash selling her to zariel and just suddenly being forcibly shoved into avernus in a moment's notice it makes me want to cry out of cruelty, but more so because it was so cruel but karlach fought tooth and nail to retain the heart she also forcibly lost. she wanted her soul, she wanted her kindness, and she'll be DAMNED if she let that rat man and fallen devil take THAT from her when they took everything else. and what bothers me too is that she wants to ask gortrash why he did ... but she knows why he did it. he did it just for the money. that's it. she just wants to hear another reason. a better reason. something more solid.

something that makes more SENSE than just money.

they all had their specialties , but as it turns out the barbarian tiefling with a penchant for rage wouldn't get too far if the door absolutely solid. she needs a little help for that. or someone that's good with a bow to get her back. nobody truly wants to admit it , but they work well as a team. karlach's fiery gaze finds his crimson irises with a little bit of a goofy smile.

" it's less flattery and more the truth , fangs. " that's always such a choice of a nickname for him , considering she has fangs too. his fangs are just more ... fang-y.

𝐇is talents needed ˏ lips curling upright into a small smile 。He made himself useful ˏ nimble digits working wonders on doors ˏ chests ˏ pockets a well rounded package 。An audible chuckle erupted from throat confinement as he watched the tiefling before him 。 Wonderful 。He’d be a liar — more so than ever if a part of him wasn’t amused by her nonchalant mannerisms 。Digits managed to rest book against table as crimson irises flicked to examine her closely 。
